It's recommended to clean mattresses at least every 6-12 months to eliminate dust mites, dirt, bacteria, and odors. After cleaning, the mattress will be damp and typically takes about four hours to dry. 

You can speed up the drying process by using ceiling fans or pedestal fans directed at the mattress. While this method removes most stains, some stains may become permanent over time. Although cleaning may not eliminate these stubborn stains, it will effectively kill bacteria and remove dust mites and dead skin cells.
